The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes NAC members who have demonstrated sustained leadership, long-term involvement, and exceptional support of the Academy. Presented periodically, it honors individuals whose significant contributions and lifelong commitment have meaningfully advanced NAC’s mission and impact.

James G. Slaughter Jr.

“Jimmy epitomizes the criteria for this award. Inducted at the first NAC Annual Meeting in 2000, he has remained an active and dedicated member ever since, including nominating new members for the 2025 class. He served as NAC Chair in 2004, received the Ted C. Kennedy Award in 2015, and co-chaired the Forum Committee from 2009 to 2016. A leader in strategic planning, membership, and safety efforts, he has also been exceptionally generous as one of NAC’s three Cornerstone Lifetime Givers. He and his wife, Shirley, hosted numerous NAC retreats at their Northside Ranch and sponsored the 2004 NAC/NAE Dispute Resolution workshop in Washington, D.C., the Academy’s first major external event and a catalyst for future action.”
