2026 Summit to Establish an Engineering Standard of Care for Cyber Safety
The National Academy of Construction (NAC), in collaboration with the United Engineering Foundation (UEF), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), The International Society of Automation (ISA), and a growing list of industry associations and think tanks have come together to address an emerging existential risk in the built environment – the cyber security and safety of automated, connected systems that globally impact lives, health, and economies. The Summit link is https://cybersafetysummitdc.org/.
Invited experts from academia, professional organizations, infrastructure owners, and the Nation’s leading companies providing engineering, insurance, and cybersecurity services will gather in Washington DC on June 10, 2026, at the National Science Foundation in a call to action to establish a cyber safety engineering Standard of Care and professional standards for design, construction and operation of the built environment to protect human safety.
We are asking for your help and networks to identify additional partners, sponsors and presentations specifically to inform the development of principles, minimal safety specifications, and requirements for a professional license for cyber security. Please contact Lucian Niemeyer at [email protected] or (571) 277-3115 for more information.
NAC Member Annual Meeting
Each fall, typically in October, the NAC Annual Meeting is held. Locations have varied since 1999, when the first Preliminary Organizational Meeting was held in San Antonio, TX. The Annual Meeting includes the induction of new members and awarding of the Ted C. Kennedy Award which take place during the Annual Gala typically on Thursday evening.
During the business portion of the meeting on Friday, the NAC Chair and NAC President/CEO provide a report to the members on the operation of the Academy. Election of officers and the appointment of committee members and chairs are held. Special awards and recognitions, such as the Richard L. Tucker Service Award and presentation of scholarship awardees occur. The various standing committees meet face to face during the Annual Meeting and also report on activities conducted during the year as well as future plans during the business meeting. Keynote and guest speakers are often invited to share insights on recent developments in the industry and members participate in key discussions of NAC’s future in light of these changes.
An Auction is held on the last evening of Annual Meeting as a fund-raiser. Also, a hospitality room is set up as a location for spouses and members to relax and mix in a casual setting. Tours, golf outings, and other social gatherings are also planned as part of the Annual Meeting.
