S:6 E#13: Building Hope: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in Construction with Sonya Bohmann and Cal Beyer

In this episode of Get the kNACk, host and NAC member Sue Steele is joined by Cal Beyer of SAFE Project and Sonya Bohmann, Executive Director of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP), to discuss mental health, suicide prevention, substance use, and recovery in the construction industry.

They explore why mental well-being is an essential part of workplace safety, the importance of safe and person-first language, and how leaders can be visible, vocal, and vulnerable in supporting their teams. Through personal stories and resources like Stronger than the Silence: The Road to Recovery Begins With a Voice, they emphasize how starting conversations, reducing stigma, and connecting people with support can help build a safer and healthier construction industry.

In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month this September, this conversation serves as an important reminder of the role we can all play in creating a culture of hope, connection, and support across the construction industry.
