Andrew J. Ciancia
Andy Ciancia is Chairman of the Board Emeritus and Senior Consultant at Langan Engineering. He is a graduate of Rutgers University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. Andy is also a Senior University Lecturer at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), focusing on teaching geotechnical courses.
Throughout his nearly 30 year tenure at Langan, Andy has managed some of the company’s most challenging projects in the New York Metropolitan area and across the country, including Barclays Arena (Brooklyn), US Holocaust Museum (DC), 9/11 Memorial Museum (NYC), and One Vanderbilt (NYC). In addition, since 2019, Andy has been a Senior University Lecturer at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), teaching soil mechanics and foundation design classes. Prior to NJIT, he was an adjunct professor at NYU and Rutgers.
He holds professional engineering licenses in nine states and is LEED AP certified. Andy is a member of The Moles, an ASCE Fellow, past chairman of the American Council of Engineering Companies, New York, former chair of ACEC’s Engineering Excellence Committee, and is on the board of ACEC's Geo-Professional Coalition Committee. Since 2005, he has worked closely with the New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB), helping update three versions of the Building Code and developing a new Waterfront Code. He also served on the Mayor’s Building Resiliency Task Force. In 2018, he was named Engineer of the Year by ACEC New York and Civil Engineer of the Year by the ASCE Metropolitan Section, In 2025, Andy was honored with the Industry Partner Award by the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY).
