John W. Henderson is Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HDR, a global design and engineering firm, where he leads the company’s strategic growth and oversees operations across diverse infrastructure markets. A licensed Professional Engineer and retired U.S. Army Colonel, John previously served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy, where he directed over $40 billion in military construction, infrastructure, environmental, installations, and energy programs worldwide. With over 30 years of leadership spanning public and private sectors, he brings expertise in engineering, operations, water resource management, and environmental policy. John holds a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He has held command and senior staff positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and serves on national boards including the Construction Industry Round Table and the Omaha Airport Authority. Known for his steady leadership, civic engagement, and commitment to mentoring future professionals, John continues to shape infrastructure delivery at the intersection of engineering, public policy, and national service.
