Ewa Z. Bauer-Furbush
Ewa Z. Bauer-Furbush is chief engineering officer for the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. She holds a master’s in civil engineering from the Swietokrzyska Polytechnic University in Kielce, Poland, and a post-graduate diploma from Warsaw Polytechnic University.
Based in San Francisco, California, the district owns, maintains and operates the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Transit buses, and the Golden Gate Ferry. The district is responsible for more than 38 million cars crossing the bridge and nine million riders on the buses and ferry each year.
Ewa led the Golden Gate Seismic Retrofit Phase II project, which earned her an Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She is a frequent lecturer and speaker.
She enjoys reading on subjects from psychology to science fiction, as well as hiking the Bay Area and watching classic Hollywood movies.
