Walter C. Bell
Walter C. Bell is a retired senior vice president of Bechtel Corporation, and from 1998-2003 was managing director, Union Railways North, which built the UK link of the Channel Tunnel to link Paris and Glasgow by high speed rail. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Polytechnic Institute and a master’s of civil engineering from Purdue University.
From 1955-81, Walter served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and served as director of the U.S. Army Engineering Studies Center from 1976-78 before retiring as a colonel. Joining the private sector in 1981, he rose to serve as president of MK Engineers and president and CEO of Morrison International. In the 1990s, he joined Bechtel, and had responsibilities for high-speed rail, rapid transit, tunnels, and magnetic levitation. Walter now is a member of the Infrastructure Asset Investment Committee of UBS Global Asset Management Corporation.
He and his wife, Barbara, make their home in Orinda, CA.
